How to Measure Package Girth Correctly

Learn which side is length, how girth is calculated, and why carrier-specific length-plus-girth limits should be checked after the geometry.

Package girth is easy to calculate once the sides are labeled correctly. The common mistake is treating a fixed dimension as length instead of identifying the longest side first.

Step 1: identify the longest side

Measure all three outside dimensions of the packed parcel. The longest dimension becomes length for a standard length-plus-girth calculation.

Step 2: calculate girth

The other two dimensions form the package cross-section. Girth is two times their sum: girth = 2 × (width + height).

Step 3: add length

Length plus girth equals the longest side plus the girth value. The Package Girth Calculator sorts the three dimensions automatically so you do not need to decide which label belongs on each side.

Do not hard-code carrier thresholds

Oversize rules can change by service, country and contract. CargoToolsHub calculates the geometry but deliberately does not tell you that one universal number applies to every carrier. Compare the result with the current rule for the exact service you plan to purchase.
