Shipping weight should include the goods plus the packaging that is actually handed to the carrier. This calculator separates product weight from carton, pallet or other tare so the gross total is easy to audit.
How to use this calculator
Enter weight per product or handling unit, quantity and the total packaging/tare weight for the shipment. Choose kilograms or pounds.
Formula and method
Gross shipping weight = item weight × quantity + packaging/tare. The result is also converted between kilograms and pounds.
Worked example
Ten items weighing 2.5 kg each plus 3 kg of packaging produce a gross shipping weight of 28 kg.
What to check before you ship
This tool calculates actual gross weight. Parcel and air services may bill a higher dimensional or chargeable weight, and scales or carrier rounding rules can change the tendered value.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
