Packaging efficiency is a quick way to spot oversized cartons before they become a dimensional-weight or container-space problem. This tool compares product cube with package inside cube.
How to use this calculator
Enter product dimensions, quantity inside one package and the package inside dimensions using the same unit.
Formula and method
Volume efficiency = total rectangular product volume ÷ package inside volume × 100. Estimated void percentage = 100 − efficiency.
Worked example
If a product group occupies 4,000 cm³ inside a 5,000 cm³ box, the simple volume efficiency is 80% and the estimated void share is 20%.
What to check before you ship
Volume ratios do not prove physical packability. Orientation, irregular shapes, protective material, partitions and required clearance can create additional unusable space.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
