Air versus ocean is not only a rate comparison. The decision usually combines chargeable weight, W/M, fixed local charges and transit time. This tool puts those assumptions in one visible scenario.
How to use this calculator
Enter air chargeable weight, rate and fixed charges. Then enter ocean CBM, weight, LCL rate, minimums and fixed charges. Add planning transit days for both modes.
Formula and method
Air cost = chargeable kilograms × air rate + air fixed charges. Ocean cost uses the greater of CBM, metric tonnes and the entered minimum W/M, then applies any minimum ocean freight charge plus fixed charges.
Worked example
If air costs 2,500 and ocean costs 1,200 but air saves 20 days, the calculator also shows the additional freight spend per day saved.
What to check before you ship
This is a transparent scenario model, not a live quote. Consolidation schedules, customs, pickup/delivery, airport/port charges, inventory carrying cost, reliability and service level can reverse the real business decision.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
