Package girth measures the distance around the two shorter sides of a rectangular parcel. Many parcel services combine the longest side with girth when applying size restrictions or oversize rules.

How to use this calculator

Enter all three outside package dimensions. The calculator automatically treats the longest entered side as length and uses the other two dimensions for girth.

Formula and method

Girth = 2 × (width + height), where width and height are the two shorter sides. Length + girth = longest side + girth.

Worked example

For a 50 × 30 × 20 cm package, length is 50 cm, girth is 100 cm and length plus girth is 150 cm.

What to check before you ship

Carrier thresholds differ by service, market and date. Use the calculator for geometry, then compare the result with the current rule for the exact carrier service you plan to use.

Why the result matters

Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.

For the measurement sequence and an explanation of length plus girth, see how to measure package girth. Always apply the relevant carrier limit separately.

Common questions

Before you rely on the result

Short answers to the practical questions that most often change shipping calculations.
