Use the 40-foot container calculator for a fast rectangular carton-count estimate when the shipment is planned in a standard 40GP dry container.
How to use this calculator
Enter one packed carton length, width and height. The calculator converts the dimensions and checks six axis-aligned orientations against common nominal internal 40GP dimensions.
Formula and method
The basic grid count is the whole-number fit along internal length multiplied by the whole-number fit across width and height. The best orientation is reported.
Worked example
Doubling container length does not always double carton count because whole-number grid effects and carton orientation can create step changes in capacity.
What to check before you ship
Confirm actual container dimensions and payload with the operator. Physical loading can also be reduced by doors, dunnage, securing, mixed loads and unusable voids.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
Compare this estimate with the 20ft versus 40ft capacity guide and use the payload calculator when shipment weight may be the limiting factor.
