The container loading calculator estimates a simple axis-aligned carton count for common dry container sizes. It tests all six carton orientations and returns the highest grid count.

How to use this calculator

Choose a common container or enter custom internal dimensions, then enter carton length, width and height. The calculator compares each possible axis-aligned orientation.

Formula and method

For each orientation, the tool multiplies the whole-number carton count along container length, width and height. It also compares used carton volume with approximate internal container volume.

Worked example

If one orientation fits 14 cartons along the length, 7 across and 8 high, that orientation yields 784 cartons before operational constraints are considered.

What to check before you ship

This is not a full 3D bin-packing or load-securing simulation. Real results can be lower because of door openings, payload limits, mixed orientations, bracing, dunnage, palletization and unusable spaces. Nominal container dimensions also vary by manufacturer and operator.

Why the result matters

Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
