Overhang occurs when the loaded footprint extends beyond the pallet deck. Underhang occurs when the load footprint is smaller than the pallet. Both can affect handling, stability and space use.
How to use this calculator
Enter pallet length and width plus the final loaded footprint. The tool assumes the rectangular load is centered on the pallet.
Formula and method
Centered overhang per side = (loaded dimension − pallet dimension) ÷ 2 for each axis. Negative values represent underhang.
Worked example
A 122 × 102 cm load centered on a 120 × 100 cm pallet has 1 cm of overhang per side on both axes.
What to check before you ship
Real loads can shift and may have irregular projections. Customer, rack, carrier and packaging rules can prohibit overhang even when the amount is small.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
