Pallet size selection can change cartons per layer even before stack height is considered. This tool compares several common pallet footprints using the same carton and row-packing method.
How to use this calculator
Enter the carton base dimensions and unit. The calculator compares common European, ISO and North American-style pallet footprints, allowing carton base rotation and mixed rows.
Formula and method
For each pallet footprint the tool estimates cartons per layer and footprint utilization. The geometric recommendation is the footprint with the strongest tested use of available area.
Worked example
A carton that fits eight times on a 120 × 80 cm pallet may fit ten times on a 120 × 100 cm footprint, but the larger pallet can still be a worse choice if it is unavailable or incompatible with the lane.
What to check before you ship
Treat the result as a geometric comparison. Pallet exchange systems, racks, forklifts, customer specifications, trailer/container patterns and pallet availability can make another footprint operationally better.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
Compare candidate footprints with the regional pallet size reference. To estimate cartons and layers on a chosen footprint, use the pallet loading calculator.
