Many LCL quotations use weight or measure, often written W/M, to determine the revenue quantity. This calculator compares shipment cubic metres with weight in metric tonnes.

How to use this calculator

Enter shipment CBM and gross kilograms. The tool converts kilograms to metric tonnes and selects the greater figure as the W/M planning quantity.

Formula and method

W/M revenue units equal the greater of shipment CBM or shipment weight in metric tonnes under the common one-CBM-versus-one-tonne planning convention.

Worked example

An 8 m³ shipment weighing 2,500 kg compares 8 CBM with 2.5 tonnes, so the volume side controls and the planning revenue quantity is 8 W/M.

What to check before you ship

Quote structures can vary by forwarder, lane and charge type. Confirm how the specific charge on your quote defines weight, measure, minimums and rounding.

Why the result matters

Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.

Common questions

Before you rely on the result

Short answers to the practical questions that most often change shipping calculations.

How is a W/M revenue ton calculated?

A common LCL planning convention compares cubic metres with metric tonnes and uses the greater number as the revenue quantity.

Is one revenue ton always one metric tonne?

No. In weight-or-measure rating, one CBM can also count as one revenue unit when volume exceeds weight in tonnes.

Do I need an account to use this calculator?

No. CargoToolsHub calculators run in your browser and do not require a signup.

Should I verify the result before booking freight?

Yes. Use the result as a planning aid and verify carrier-specific rules, equipment limits, tariffs or contractual requirements before a critical shipment.
