A 40HC container has additional internal height compared with a standard 40-foot general-purpose container. This tool shows whether that extra height changes the whole-number carton grid for the dimensions you enter.
How to use this calculator
Enter the packed carton dimensions and select the measurement unit. The calculator tests all six basic orientations inside common nominal 40HC internal dimensions.
Formula and method
For each carton orientation, whole cartons are counted along internal length, width and height. The highest complete grid is reported together with approximate cube utilization.
Worked example
If the extra high-cube height is enough for one more complete carton layer, the count can rise sharply. If it is not enough for a full extra layer, the geometry count can remain unchanged.
What to check before you ship
Always check payload, door opening, container operator specifications, securing and real-world loading clearances before relying on a theoretical grid count.
Why the result matters
Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.
Extra height can add a layer without changing door clearance or payload. Check the container dimensions reference and compare the standard 40ft estimate for the same cartons.
