The optimizer uses a transparent rectangular packing heuristic. Validate pallet stability, payload, door clearance and operational constraints before loading.

This end-to-end optimizer connects carton geometry, pallet limits and container floor planning instead of forcing you to run three separate calculators. It is built for fast scenario checks when packaging, pallet height or container choice changes.

How to use this calculator

Enter the carton dimensions and weight, pallet footprint, pallet/packaging tare, loaded-height and gross-weight limits, then select a container. The result shows TI, layers, cartons per pallet, loaded pallet gross weight, pallets on the container floor and the resulting carton count.

Formula and method

The pallet stage uses a rectangular row-packing heuristic with base rotation. Height and the entered gross pallet-weight limit cap the load; pallet/packaging tare is deducted before carton capacity is calculated. The container stage applies the same footprint logic to the pallet bases on the selected nominal container floor.

Worked example

If a carton change raises TI from 8 to 10 while the same number of layers still fit, cartons per pallet rise by 25 percent before the container calculation is even considered. The chained result makes that packaging leverage visible.

What to check before you ship

Treat the result as a transparent planning estimate. The entered tare should include the pallet plus known packaging/securing weight. Carton compression, overhang, load stability, container payload, door clearance, dunnage and load-securing rules can still reduce the executable count.

Why the result matters

Accurate dimensions and weights help with quoting, space planning and avoiding preventable adjustments. Always use the packaged outside dimensions that will actually be tendered for transport, and verify any carrier-specific rules that affect billing or classification.

The carton-to-container planning workflow explains the sequence behind this connected estimate. Validate actual equipment dimensions against the container reference.

Common questions

Before you rely on the result

Short answers to the practical questions that most often change shipping calculations.

What does the carton-to-container optimizer calculate?

It chains three planning steps: cartons per pallet, pallets on the selected container floor and the resulting carton count and utilization estimates.

Is this proof that the shipment will physically fit?

No. It is a transparent rectangular packing estimate. Stability, clearances, payload, load securing and real equipment dimensions still need verification.

Why can weight reduce cartons per pallet?

The planner respects the maximum loaded pallet weight you enter as well as the maximum loaded height, so either constraint can become the limiting factor.

Do I need an account to use this calculator?

No. CargoToolsHub calculators run in your browser and do not require a signup.

Should I verify the result before booking freight?

Yes. Use the result as a planning aid and verify carrier-specific rules, equipment limits, tariffs or contractual requirements before a critical shipment.
